BMT are a nation-wide engineering firm who pride themselves on being meticulous, detailed & dedicated. Being engineers their space needed to be practical first and foremost yet increase the facility available to the team to support the team. The biggest changes for the team were to create a larger breakout & staff kitchen facility. The new facility is approximately 4 times the size of the previous facility and has been overwhelmingly embraced by the team and reinvigorated their return to workspace policy. Dis-similar to their previous environment a focus was to remove dead waiting area’s/over-sized training rooms. This meant the overall size of the tenancy could decrease yet still enhance the facilities for staff, their work environment, a grater breakout space and introduce smaller meeting & quiet rooms. The vibe of the space was to reflect a marine & shipping aesthetic which is their main area of expertise in Melbourne which is shipping & defence. This was subtly incorporated through marine ply timber finishes & feature lighting which is reminiscent of a lighthouse globe. To engage with the staff in the design process they were welcomed to contribute to the imagery in the splashback. The decision was made to have the Melbourne skyline which gives a point of difference and relevance to the Melbourne team.
